The precocious vigilante used nearly every household object at his disposal in defending his home when his parents unknowingly left him alone during Christmas. Flying paint cans, searing door knobs and ice covered steps helped the rising star defend his besieged home from these evil perpetrators. Although the Home Alone movie franchise provided some much needed comic relief during the stress riddled holiday season, it touched upon a serious societal concern: the rise of home burglaries during the Christmas season.

Violent crime doesn’t take a break during the holidays. December is often peak time for burglaries as families plan extensive outings that make their vacant homes susceptible to sinister break-ins and burglaries. “Criminals drive through neighborhoods looking for places to burglarize,” said Police Officer Ben Hayden. “If there’s newly fallen snow that hasn’t been shoveled, they figure the home is empty.”
